British mornings have no breakfast stalls — but they can have an electric griddle, and the smell of shouzhuabing (flaky hand-pulled pancake) you make yourself.

The Royalstar split electric griddle comes with a UK plug, no adapter needed — it goes straight into a British socket and gets to work. Top and bottom plates heat together, so there's no flipping the pancake back and forth; breakfast for one or two is out in minutes, and it fits fine in a flatshare kitchen.

The plates detach for easy washing — after frying dumplings, the oily base rinses clean in one go; and with both sides heating at once, there's still time to griddle one before your 9am.

A griddle lugged over from China needs a plug adapter and a nervous eye on the voltage — this one is made for British sockets: plug in and go, one worry fewer.

Quick Recipes

  • Shouzhuabing: frozen pancake straight onto the griddle, no defrosting — golden and flaky on both sides, then roll it round a fried egg, a lettuce leaf and a squeeze of sauce.
  • Crispy-bottomed dumplings: lay the dumplings out and fry for two minutes, add a small half-bowl of water and close the lid — when the water has cooked away, lift the lid to a crackly golden base.

Tastes of Home

Henan jidan guanbing (egg-stuffed flatbread), Shandong spring-onion pancakes and thousand-layer bing, northeastern jinbing wrapped round shredded potato, Tianjin-style jianbing guozi, Shaanxi laomo flatbread, Cantonese pan-fried turnip cake, Jiangnan chive pockets — a whole street of breakfast stalls, folded into this one griddle.
